Society of Arts, Social Sciences & Humanities
Our Vision & Mission
The Society of Arts, Social Sciences, and Humanities (SASSH) is a student-led society that is responsible for serving the interests of 4900+ Arts students at Toronto Metropolitan University. The SASSH seeks to create services, resources and events that will enhance the academic, professional, and co-curricular experiences for all Arts students. As a whole, the SASSH works to encourage all members to become active participants within the University, while providing opportunities for personal development.

Our Core Values
Inclusion, Diversity, Equity, and Accessibility (IDEA)
IDEA is at the heart of everything we do. As a student society, SASSH is committed to creating a safe, inclusive, and accessible environment where all students feel welcomed and valued. We recognize the systemic barriers that exist in society and work actively to address them—whether through our events, outreach, or advocacy efforts. We also collaborate with the university to ensure extracurricular and leadership opportunities are accessible to students of all backgrounds and abilities. In 2022, SASSH was a recipient of the Alan Shepard EDI Award.
Accountability & Transparency
SASSH believes that strong leadership means owning up to our actions. As student leaders, we recognize that mistakes happen—but it’s how we respond that matters. We take accountability, communicate openly with our peers, and stay transparent in our decisions and processes. This helps us build trust with the student body, foster a culture of honesty, and grow both individually and as a team.
Academics & Professionalism
As representatives of the Faculty of Arts, we strive to uphold academic excellence and model professionalism. We support students in their academic journeys and aim to create opportunities that help them grow both in and out of the classroom.
Empowerment
SASSH empowers Faculty of Arts students by creating spaces where their voices are heard and their achievements are celebrated. Through our events, initiatives, and student-led opportunities, we encourage self-expression, confidence, and leadership development. Whether it's helping students manage stress, connect with others, or showcase their talents—we aim to uplift our community.
Wellness
Student wellness is a priority for us. With the introduction of our Mental Wellness and Civility Policy, we’ve committed to supporting the emotional and mental well-being of our peers. We aim to foster a culture of respect, care, and balance—by promoting wellness resources, encouraging healthy dialogue, and hosting initiatives that support students both personally and academically.
